Class & Private Lesson Policies
Class Transfer Policy
A $10.00 transaction fee applies to all initial class transfers. A second transfer will result in an additional transaction fee of $25.00. There will be no refunds or transfers beyond the second. Please contact us via email for any extenuating circumstances.
To transfer to another class, the request must be made 5 full days prior to the start date of the original class. You will be charged the appropriate transaction fee. If the new class costs less than the original, the remaining balance will remain on account with us and may be applied to a future class.
There are no refunds or make-ups for missed classes.
Class Cancellation Policy
A $15.00 transaction fee applies to all class cancellations. To receive a refund for a cancelled registration, notification must be given at least one full week prior to the class start date. If you cancel within one week, but at least 5 days prior, a transfer to another class would be an option. See class transfer policy.
If we must cancel a class, you will receive a full refund, or you may apply the fee to another class. If payment was made with a Gift Certificate, there will be no refunds; you may apply the Gift Certificate to another class only.
If the new class costs less than the original, the remaining balance will remain on account with us and may be applied to a future class.
Payment Policy
All classes with a fee less than $100.00 require full payment at the time of registration. Classes priced over $100.00 require at least $100 or 50% of the fee as a deposit, whichever is greater, at time of registration. The balance is due the first day of class. If registering via PayPal or our online store, partial payment is not available. Material fees, if not included in the class fee, can be paid to your instructor the first day of class.
Private Lesson Cancellation Policy
The pre-paid fees and deposits are non-refundable. You may re-schedule up to 24 hours prior to your appointment. Up to 2 re-schedules may be made at no charge; subsequent re-schedule requests for the same appointment will result in an additional $10.00 fee payable at the time of the lesson.
Parlour Equipment Use Terms & Conditions
General
All our machines are very well maintained. We pamper them and hope that you will treat them with care. Should you have any problems, please let us know immediately. Please do not try to force anything - often that will cause damage that could have otherwise been avoided.
Pins & Needles All students must use glass head pins at “the parlour”. If a student does not have glass head pins, they may be purchased at “the parlour” or the student may borrow pins for the class ($5.00 usage fee will apply).
Each sewing machine will be equipped with a Universal 80/12 needle. If using a serger/overlock machine, one additional needle of the same type will be supplied upon request for the two needle overcast machine feature.
If you require another type or size of needle, you must supply them.
Should you break or otherwise damage any needle on the machine, it will be your responsibility to replace the needle with a new one of the same size and quality.
Thread & Bobbins Thread is not supplied by “the parlour” except for the Totally New and the first session of the Beginner Sewing series. Thread is available for purchase at “the parlour”.
Empty bobbins will be provided for the on-site Bernina sewing machines. They are also available for sale. Please refer to the "Sewing machines" section below for details.
Other Notions Everyone should bring their personal sewing kit with them. There are some general sewing notions available for use at “the parlour” (shears, rotary cutters, rulers, etc.); a $5.00 usage fee will apply. Sewing notions are available for sale.
Sewing Machines
Upon check-in for "parlour time", you will receive a machine "kit" containing a bobbin, bobbin case, screw driver (for needle replacement), and 2 machine feet (of your choice from the available selection). The kit, in its entirety, must be returned before leaving. You will be charged (full replacement value) for any missing or damaged components. If you wish to use any other machine accessories (specialty feet, cut & sew, eyelet kit, etc.), they will need to be requested and checked out separately.
Sergers/Overlock Machines
If you wish to use any of the accessories, they will need to be requested and checked out separately. You will be charged (full replacement value) should you damage or fail to check in an accessory prior to the end of the session.
In the event that you wish to use the coverstitch and the machine is not already set up for that feature, please let us know and we will set it up for you. Note: The only machine with cover stitch capability is the Pfaff Coverlock.
